Revision Advice READ THIS FIRST
The exam is a 1 and a half hour long written paper (NOT multi-choice)
It is worth 40% of Unit 2 (the Full course).

Pre-release Scenario: Exotic Holidays (Word Doc)
Official Pre-release Scenario: Exotic Holidays (pdf)
Key points:

Research Brief
The idea is you do research homework (pdf) on ICT in the Travel Industry and then go into the exam with your notes (hopefully all the answers) to get you full marks!!!

You are allowed to take in to the exam 4 sheets of A4 full to the brim with notes.
Your ICT teacher will provide one double-sided page for these and you will provide the rest from your homework research project.

You get zero marks for your answers unless you relate it to the travel scenario. Eg If asked 'Describe how the travel company might use a computer keyboard' You get NOTHING for saying 'For Typing'. The examiner expects you to say 'They may use it to type letters to customers'. This issue has led to some good students doing badly in this exam in the past.

Never refer to software products by name. Eg asked 'What type of software would the staff use to type a letter? Don't answer 'Microsoft Word' it's the wrong answer. They will allow 'The admin staff would use Word Processing Software'.

Some Revision Materials for the full course paper
Read below first!!!

Here is an exhaustive list of exam material which may be relevant
(but not hugely important): Exam revision background reading

What will be in the exam paper???
Only what is on the list below.
If you know this in detail you DONTreally need to revise much else

• uses of different types of computer system
(eg how the travel company staff may use Apple Mac / Windows PC / laptops palmtops handhelds etc)

• the types of hardware and software used by a travel company
(Office software with other travel specific software eg databases which validate passport numbers etc)

• the use of different sections on a standard keyboard
(what does the number pad do? What are the function keys for? What does the Windows key do? What does Control and Alt do?)

• data input, output and storage (make sure you know which is which)

  • the difference between using digital thermometers and analogue

• the use and equipment needed for modern communication methods
(How they might use Internet, email, mobile phones, wireless and Bluetooth devices)

• searching for information using ICT
(How the travel company staff use Internet and database search)
• database systems used in a travel company

database entry forms (common features of a data entry page on a travel company ’s website where you sign up for information eg submit button, required fields, etc)

• How the travel company ’s website may prevent data entry errors (proof reading, spell and grammar check, data validation using drop-down lists and error messages (eg in Excel)

• methods of maintaining data security

• data protection legislation (how it applies to the travel company )

• computer viruses (what are they and what can you do to prevent them?)

• software licensing and copyright laws

• the use of multimedia

• website design

• software documentation
(eg what do licence agreements make the users agree to?)

• the use of templates, styles and wizards, including house style
(why would the travel company's admin staff use template letters to write to their customers?)

• file extensions (eg .pdf or .doc what are they? What do they do?)

• the use of system flow charts (drawing flow charts which don't just show what happens when, but also show what happens to the data when each process occurs)
